This CPD will enable practitioners to gain holistic knowledge around climate change in the built environment, with a specific focus on RIBA’s Climate Literacy Knowledge Schedule’s Energy and Carbon section. The aim is to equip practitioners with a clear roadmap, a set of tools and holistic knowledge for delivering low/zero energy/carbon buildings, without causing any unintended consequence. (It will also guide RIBA Members in acquiring knowledge to prepare for the Climate Literacy exam – an overview of which will be also provided during this CPD). The session will set the context with RIBA 2030 Climate Challenge targets, and dive deep in explaining all the different targets, what they mean and how they can be achieved in different projects. Case studies of different sizes/scales and geographic locations will be utilised to demonstrate real-life examples that meet the 2030 targets.
In addition to explaining some of the key strategies practitioners can incorporate into their projects, this session will focus on project process, including the ideal workflow of various assessments (energy modelling, embodied carbon calculations, etc.) and close collaboration with the wider stakeholders, to ensure the defined targets can be consistently incorporated into a Client brief, worked iteratively through the design evolution of the project and be safeguarded when the project is constructed and in in-use.
